Tiger with mouth open

It’s a Great Day to be a Tiger!

Oktoberfest at WES was a huge success.  The younger students got to trunk-or-treat with local businesses and the older students enjoyed playing games for treats.  There were so many cute costumes and lots of smiles on the faces of kids and adults alike.  Thank you to everyone who participated.  We look forward to making this an annual event.

Thanksgiving Holidays will be here before we know it.  Staff and students will enjoy a holiday from November 21 - 25 and return to school on Monday, November 28th. Looking ahead, Christmas Holidays will begin on Wednesday, December 21st and go through Tuesday, January 3rd.  Faculty and staff will return on Wednesday, January 4th for Professional Development and students will return on Thursday, January 5th.  This is a little different than past years so make a note.

Student attendance is so important for several reasons.  First and foremost, students need to be in the classroom in order to take full advantage of the teaching and learning opportunities that are being designed especially for them.  Also, attendance during October and November determines funding for the district next school year.  Parents, please help us by sending your child to school every day unless they are sick.

Flu season is upon us.  Parents, please help us by keeping your child home if he/she has a temperature higher than 100.0, runny nose, sneezing, cough, body aches, and/or vomiting or diarrhea.  Students should stay home until the doctor says they can return.  Here at school students and staff should wash their hands often with soap and water, avoid touching their face, and cover their nose and mouth when coughing or sneezing.

November 8th is Election Day.  District 2 School Board Member Mrs. Brandye Brannon is on the ballot unopposed.  Thank you to all of our Board members Jill White, Nora Dunn, Dr. Katherine Hughes, Chase DeNoon, and Brandye Brannon for all they do for WMCSD.

Congratulations to the WHS Football Team as they have earned the title of District Champs.  They will take on Nettleton this Friday night at Tiger Stadium at 7:00pm.  You can purchase tickets online at GoFan or at the gate. The WHS Cross Country team will be attending the State Meet on November 7th.  The meet will be held at the Choctaw Trails in Clinton, MS.  Start time for 3A runners will be around 12:30. In Basketball action, the Junior High Tiger teams will play at Grenada on Thursday the 3rd, and at home on Monday the 7th vs East Webster.  The High School teams will have a home game on the 3rd vs Kosciusko and play @ Water Valley on the 8th.  Ticket prices for home games are $5 for junior high games and $7 for high school games.

Senior Night was a great night for WMCSD.  Twenty-two senior Band Members, Dancers, Cheerleaders, and Football Players and their parents and guardians were recognized.  We sure do love our seniors, and we are glad we get to celebrate with them all throughout this school year.

WHS will be holding FASFA day for the 2023 Senior Class on November 15.  College Financial Aid experts will be on hand to help each parent/guardian properly prepare their Federal Student Financial Aid documents.  For an appointment or more information please contact Mrs. Tracy Carter.

Friday, November 4th is the last day to register to take the ACT on December 10th.  On November 2, WES will host a Math Parent Night.

Parents, we know the transition from Early Intervention to School is often overwhelming and involves many changes. Join the MS Parent Training and Information Center Project and learn how to prepare and what steps to take to be ready. This will be held on November 8, 2022 from 11:30am-12:00pm. Click here to register.

November 19 will be the next Saturday Academy for WES teachers. Saturday Academy is a series of professional learning days for teachers. One Saturday each month teachers work from 8:00am - 12:00pm learning about various topics to improve instruction and student learning. The focus for math teachers this fall includes problem solving, fluency, and turning the textbook into meaningful tasks that promote discourse and high levels of understanding.  The focus for English-language arts include comprehension and writing and connecting the two skills in meaningful ways.

The next regular meeting of the WMCSD Board is November 8th at 6:00pm at the Superintendent’s Office.

The Power of Positivity is evident in WMCSD!
