The Winona-Montgomery Consolidated School District is extremely proud of senior Bailey Holly.
Holly started her summer by spending two weeks at the Mississippi University for Women attending Mississippi Governor’s School. There, she earned two hours of college credit by taking two classes. She also participated in Governor’s School Speak Out, Stand up, and Run for Office class, where she learned about the U.S. government and the correct process to petition the government. She also took Fairy Tales where she learned about the characteristics of fairy tales and analyzed them in today's society.
Then, she spent five weeks at the University of Mississippi participating in the Trent Lott Leadership Institute for Rising 12th graders. The goals of the program are to develop leadership skills in young citizens and prepare them for college. To achieve these goals, the Summer Leadership Institute brings together student leaders from across the Southeast to earn college credit on the UM campus and to begin the study of leadership and public policy. Here, she earned seven hours of college credit by taking Speech 101 and Political Science 201. She also had the great opportunity to meet several influential Mississippi natives including Attorney General Lynn Fitch, State Auditor Shad White, and retired Majority Leader Trent Lott.
She was also selected to be a part of the first annual Mississippi Secretary of States Ambassadors’ Program. This year-long program focuses on teaching the importance of voting to young adults. It does this by teaching students how to run voter drives and how to help their classmates register to vote.
It’s a great day to be a Tiger.
