On Wednesday, August 10, 2022, at approximately 4:30pm, a shooting occurred at a house on Powell Street near the JJ Knox Gym. The incident did not occur on school property and was not associated with a school event. Thankfully, no WMCSD students were present at the gym at the time of the incident.
Faculty and staff will be diligent in the monitoring and supervision of students and in the assessment of their mental and emotional needs. Structure will be provided and routines will be adhered to in our efforts to provide students with a safe and orderly school environment. School Resource Officers, administrators, faculty and staff have been notified and given direction on roles and responsibilities in response to this incident.
Anytime an incident such as this occurs in a community, children and adults will be affected. Administrators, counselors, the district social worker, school-based LifeHelp therapists, and SROs are available to assist students and staff as needed.
