Harville

With the retirement of Winona Secondary School principal Donna Bishop in June, the Winona-Montgomery Consolidated School District Board of Trustees has appointed Philip Harville as the Interim Principal of Winona Secondary School for the 2023-2024 school year.

Harville is currently assistant principal at Winona Secondary School.

“Mr. Harville has done an outstanding job as assistant principal at Winona Secondary School and is the best choice to lead WSS into the new school year,” said Dr. Teresa Jackson, WMCSD Superintendent of Education. “Mr. Harville has served the students of WSS for 5 years as a math teacher, an exceptional education teacher, and now as an administrator.  He knows the WSS staff and the students and their families.”

Harville is in his 15th year in education.  The Grenada native earned his associate degree from Holmes Community College in Grenada, his bachelor’s degree from Delta State University, and his master’s degree from Arkansas State University.  He gained experience teaching in the DeSoto County School District, East Tallahatchie School District, and Grenada School District before coming to Winona.

“I’ve taught everything from elementary to high school and all subject matters,” Harville said.

Harville said as principal he hopes to continue the success Winona Secondary School has seen under the leadership of Bishop.

“I hope to take the vision we started here at WMCSD and push forward and grow our students,” Harville said.  “And make sure we have teachers in the right place to ensure our students succeed.”    Jackson said, “Mr. Harville understands the importance of increasing student achievement, providing a safe and orderly school, and maintaining a positive school experience.  He has a reputation of being firm, fair, and consistent and will continue the good work that has been started with the current administrative team.  He will also create and develop new plans for improvement throughout the school and district.”

Harville lives in Grenada with his wife and two children.
