🔥🚒 Learning Beyond the Classroom!

Winona Career and Technical Center's Law & Public Safety students participated in an educational field trip to the Winona Fire Department on September 16, 2026!

Students received hands-on instruction in fire safety, fire prevention, and emergency response while getting an up-close look at the important work of our local firefighters. They also had the opportunity to interact with fire service professionals, explore firefighting equipment, and learn more about how firefighters work each day to protect lives and serve our community.

🥜🍓 It’s harder than it sounds!

Mrs. Libby Carson’s Culinary Arts students were given a unique assignment: Write step-by-step directions for making a peanut butter and jelly sandwich—without leaving out a single detail!

Then came the real test! Five staff members were asked to follow the students’ directions exactly as written, without using any prior knowledge or filling in any missing steps. 😄

There was plenty of laughter along the way, but there was also an important lesson! Our Culinary Arts students saw firsthand just how important it is to give clear instructions, use precise measurements, and never skip a step—especially in the kitchen!

Sometimes the simplest activities make the lessons stick! ❤️🐯

Ms. Teresa Sullivant’s Health Science Seniors and Career Coach Kelli Blaylock welcomed guest speaker, Mrs. Patty Jones, MSN, RN, Assistant Program Director of Associate Degree Nursing at Holmes Community College September 16.

Mrs. Jones spoke about Practical Nursing (PN) and Associate Degree Nursing (ADN) programs at Holmes Community College. She gave students a handout and explained the application process and requirements of the ADN program at Holmes Community College.

She described tasks of CNA’s, PN’s, and RN’s and gave pay ranges of each.

She said when an ADN student becomes a Registered Nurse (RN), they have a professional career. It is both challenging and rewarding. Nurses take care of the whole person. They advocate for the patient. Holistic care “makes a nurse a nurse”.

Thank you to Mrs. Patty Jones, MSN, RN for taking time out of her busy schedule to share valuable information about a career in nursing with our students!

WCTC’s Ed Prep and Health Sciences Year 2 students teamed up for a hands-on CPR and First Aid training experience! ❤️‍🩹

Mrs. Amber Austin’s Ed Prep students had the opportunity to learn important lifesaving skills from the Health Sciences students and their instructor, Ms. Teresa Sullivant. This was a great example of collaboration, peer teaching, and students sharing their knowledge and skills with one another.

🏗️ Engineering in Action! 🐯

Mrs. Milling’s 8th grade students put their Engineering Design Process skills to the test with some fun and challenging hands-on projects!

🌉 Using just two pieces of paper and 6 inches of tape, they designed bridges that could hold weight.

🏢 Then, using 50 note cards and only 6 inches of tape, they built 12-inch towers strong enough to hold 2 pounds!

Along the way, students practiced teamwork, communication, problem-solving, and critical thinking as they designed, built, tested, and improved their creations.

Learning by doing makes a difference! Great job, Tigers! ❤️🐯🖤
